In honor of Mother’s Day, this issue of TRIBE pays tribute to those driven, talented women who have dedicated their lives to the growth and well-being of two sets of offspring: one of their wombs and one of their imaginations. -- Dina Kimmel, a self-described “granola girl,” grew up in the Santa Cruz Mountains but eventually found her way down to the San Fernando Valley. For the past 22 years, Kimmel has been a successful businesswoman — owning and operating a variety of stores in the Valley, including 15 years as owner of Lucky You, a resale clothing store. My business is We Rock the Spectrum Kid’s Gym for All kids. Our doors opened at the end of the year in September 2010. We are an open play sensory gym. What that means is that all the fun equipment we use -- swings, climbing apparatus and toys -- is based on occupational therapy. All children love to play at We Rock, but for children who are on the spectrum, they need it!

Dina Kimmel, a successful entrepreneur, is giving to the community, and word is spreading. She is giving strength, love, patience, and acceptance. Kimmel, president and owner of We Rock the Spectrum Kid’s Gym in Tarzana, has designed and built her kid’s gym with a specific clientele in mind. Thirty percent of the children that come through the door are children who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, or ASD. It all started with a little boy named Gabriel.

We Rock has joined forces with Autism Speaks and raised several thousands of dollars for Autism Research. Every year the gym walks for Team Gabriel (in honor of the Kimmels son ).
Generation Rescue and We Rock
Jenny McCarthy's foundation "Generation Rescue" is dedicated in mentoring families with children with Autism. They have an amazing support system worldwide to help give families direction in the forms of health and nutrition. We Rock had a fundraiser in early 2011 for Generation Rescue and will continue to support their efforts in the upcoming year.
